Emily Brown scored two goals to lead Minnesota to a 4-2 win over St. Cloud State on Sunday.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Emily Brown scored two goals to lead the No. 2 University of Minnesota women's hockey team to a 4-2 win over St. Cloud State at Ridder Arena on Sunday afternoon. The Gophers picked up a sweep on the weekend and improved to 8-0-0 on the year with the win.

Minnesota (8-0-0, 4-0-0 WCHA) was led by Brown's two-goal effort; the Gophers also received two points each from Taylor Heise (1g-1a) and Emily Oden (2a), and Catie Skaja rounded out the scoring. Sydney Scobee made 13 saves as the Maroon & Gold had a 40-15 advantage in shots on goal.

St. Cloud State (2-3-0, 0-3-0 WCHA) received a 36-save effort from goaltender Janine Alder and goals from Dana Rasmussen and Abby Thiessen.

The Gophers led 1-0 most of the game on a first-period tally by Brown, but the Huskies evened the game at 1-1 in the first two minutes of the third period on a goal by Rasmussen. With 9:30 remaining, Brown netted her second of the game to regain the lead before Skaja doubled the Minnesota lead with her fourth goal of the season with 7:55 remaining. Heise then buried an empty-net goal after the Huskies pulled Alder for the extra attacker in the final two minutes, but the Huskies got one back with late power-play goal by Thiessen.

Quotable
"Hard fought win here today," head coach Brad Frost said. "It's good to get the sweep at home. It's a big six points we want to keep in the bank. I thought we defended really well, and outshot them pretty heavily. Their goaltending was great, but we finally started to get some second and third chance opportunities in the net. I'm proud of the team and the effort they showed, and looking forward to next weekend on the road."

Notable
Brown's two-goal effort marked the first multi-goal game of her Gopher career. She now has four goals on the year, tying her season total in each of her first two seasons.

Up Next: Ohio State
The Gophers continue WCHA action by traveling to Ohio State next Friday, Oct. 25 and Saturday, Oct. 26. Puck drop is set for 5:07 p.m. CT Friday and 2:07 p.m. CT Saturday at OSU Ice Rink.
