MINNEAPOLIS – As a result of their excellent performances against Iowa this past weekend, Max McHugh, Gavin Olson and Tevyn Waddell have all received weekly Big Ten Conference honors, as announced Wednesday. McHugh and Waddell swept the weekly honors as the two Big Ten Swimmers of the Week, while Olson has been named Freshman of the Week.

McHugh, an All-American as a freshman a season ago, sped his way to two individual first place finishes against the Hawkeyes. The Sturgeon Bay, Wis. native dominated both the 100 breast and 200 breast, completing the events with times of 53.60 and 1:58.02, respectively.

Also contributing to the Gophers' first place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:28.87), McHugh swam the fly to the tune of a 23.99 split. This is the seventh time McHugh has earned weekly Big Ten honors, as the sophomore was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on six occasions last season.

Following in McHugh's footsteps, Gavin Olson took over the torch by being named Freshman of the Week. Competing in the 100 back and 200 back, Olson powered his way to first place in both events with finishes of 49.43 and 1:46.51. Swimming in the men's 200 medley relay, Olson helped the Gophers to yet another first place finish with his 23.31 split in the backstroke.

In being selected as Freshman of the Week, Olson becomes the second Minnesota newcomer already this season to haul in a weekly honor. Freshman Jake Butler was previously named Big Ten Diver of the Week on Oct. 16 for his performance against Florida.

Although Waddell is a returning All-American, this is the senior's first time being named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week. It would have been hard for the award to escape Waddell following her outstanding showing against Iowa, as the Mitchell, S.D. native notched individual victories in three separate events. Against the Hawkeyes, Waddell touched first in the 100 back (54.68), 200 IM (2:01.93) and 500 free (4:56.31). Waddell also helped the Maroon and Gold secure a first place finish in the 200 medley relay, with her 24.36 split in the fly powering Minnesota to a winning time of 1:41.05.

With Waddell and McHugh sweeping the Swimmer of the Week honors, the duo becomes the first to do so since Chantal Nack and Bowen Becker accomplished the feat on Feb. 6, 2019.
