MINNEAPOLIS – Minnesota junior Angus Flanagan continued his stellar play this fall as he finished in second place Tuesday at the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate in Vestavia Hills, Ala.

Flanagan, who was the medalist at last week's Macdonald Cup, shot a 2-under 68 to finish at 10-under for the tournament. He opened with four birdies in the first six holes, and had five in total on the day, as he carded his eighth straight round under par. Flanagan set personal bests for his 54-hole score of 200 as well as his score-to-par of 10-under.

The Woking, England, native was the leader in the clubhouse when he finished his round, but he was ultimately passed by Colorado State's Parathakorn Suyasri, who was tied with Flanagan for the lead through 36 holes. Suyasri shot a 67 to best Flanagan by one stroke, while no other golfer was within three shots of them.

For Flanagan, he becomes the first Gopher to post consecutive top-two finishes since Jose Mendez won the Rutherford Intercollegiate and Big Ten Championship in back-to-back events in the spring of 2014.

Three Gophers finished in the top 15 at Old Overton Club to help the team to a fifth-place finish. Minnesota was 1-under for the day at 279 and finish 2-under for the tournament at 838. Coupled with last week's win at the Macdonald Cup, the Golden Gophers now have consecutive top-five finishes at tournaments for the first time since the spring of 2015 when they took fifth at the Hawkeye Invitational and then third at the Big Ten Championship.

BYU and Colorado State tied for the team title at 17-under-par, while No. 23 Auburn came in third at 13-under. Minnesota also finished ahead of two teams ranked in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll as No. 17 Arkansas came in seventh (+12) and No. 24 Ole Miss (+20) placed eighth.

Sophomore Lincoln Johnson tied for the best finish of his career as he placed 11th, a mark he had reached twice previously in his career. A 2-under 68 on Tuesday helped give Johnson new personal lows for 54 holes (208) and score-to-par for a tournament (-2). His final round started with a double bogey on No. 1 and a bogey on the second hole, but he finished by playing 5-under over the last 16 holes, including a stretch at one point of six birdies in a 14-hole span.

The other top-15 finish belonged to freshman Connor Glynn as he ended in a five-way tie for 15th at even par. He shot a 1-over 71 Tuesday, playing the back nine at 1-under.

Senior Thomas Longbella carded a 4-over 74 to end in a tie for 40th at 12-over. He finished three strokes ahead of junior Evan Long, who moved up six spots from round two to come in tied for 46th. Long had his best round of the tournament with a 2-over 72 Tuesday, highlighted by three birdies through six holes to begin the day.

Minnesota has one tournament left in the fall season, Oct. 20-22, at the Tavistock Collegiate in Windermere, Fla. One of the top tournaments in the country, the event will be played at Isleworth Golf and Country Club.
