THIS WEEK IN GOPHER SOCCER
The Minnesota soccer team will travel across the state's eastern border for a match with the Wisconsin Badgers on Friday evening in Madison. The Gophers then have a break for the rest of the weekend before closing out the home schedule the following weekend against Nebraska (Thursday) and Iowa (Sunday).Â
ÂSERIES HISTORY
The Gophers and Badgers have met over 30 times since 1993 and the Gophers narrowly trail the all-time series 12-18-1. The Gophers last defeated the Badgers on October 24, 2013 when forward Haley Halverson scored the game-winner in the 108th minute to win with less than two minutes remaining in the second overtime period for a great road victory.
ÂLIMITING GOALS
The Gophers have excelled in limiting goals this season, especially in the past few weeks of Big Ten play. In the past 290 minutes spanning three games, the Gophers have surrendered only one goal while allowing 17 shots with seven shots on goals. Going back further, opposing teams have two goals in the last 386 minutes against the Maroon and Gold on nine shots that hit frame.
The backline has battled opposing attackers while goalkeeper Maddie Nielsen has directed traffic from net and made plays when called upon.Â
KATIE CORNER
Freshman midfielder Katie Duong has been a consistent offensive force throughout the season and led the team in shots and shots on target this past weekend. Duong, a Portland, Oregon, native, has started every game for the Gophers except for three that occurred while she was training and competing with the U-20 Women's National Team against Japan.
Last weekend against Michigan State and Indiana Duong combined for nine shots, six of those on target. On the season, she has accumulated 12 shots on target out of her 29 total attempts. That puts her at seventh in the conference with 2.64 goals per game.Â
ÂACADEMIC SUCCESS
This past week the program was recognized by the United Soccer Coaches for finishing last season with a team GPA above 3.0. The studious Gophers far surpassed that total with a 3.52 GPA.

ÂCELEBRATING 20 YEARS AT HOME
On September 29 against Ohio State, the Gophers celebrated 20 years at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium. Athletic Director Mark Coyle, University President Joan Gabel, and the team honored Deborah Olson, the daughter of Elizabeth Lyle Robbie and the main donor for the stadium.Â
Since opening in 1999, the Gophers have won over 150 games at the field known for its impeccable playing surface as well as rocking bleachers for the fans. Located off campus in nearby St. Paul, "The Robbie" has been a perfect home for the Gophers soccer program.
The Gophers will return home next weekend for their final homestand against Nebraska and Iowa.
