'U' Set for NCAA Midwest Regional

The women's six-kilometer competition is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. CT while the men's 10-kilometer race follows at 11:30 a.m. CT.

MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota cross country programs continue the 2019 championship season this weekend at the 2019 NCAA Midwest Regional, hosted by Oklahoma State on Friday, Nov. 15 at the OSU Cross Country Course in Stillwater, Okla. 

The women's six-kilometer competition is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. CT while the men's 10-kilometer race follows at 11:30 a.m. CT. Admission is free.

Gopher Women at the NCAA Midwest Regional
The Minnesota women have won three Midwest Regional titles, winning consecutive crowns in 2007, 2008, and 2009. The Gophers have also produced two Midwest Regional individual champions in Rasa Michniovaite (1998) and Stephanie Price (2010). Minnesota has finished third or higher in 19 NCAA regional meets since 1982.

Gopher Men at the NCAA Midwest Regional
The Maroon & Gold men have also won three NCAA Midwest Regional titles, claiming top honors in 1999, 2001 and 2004. The Gophers have also boasted a total of six individual champions at the event with Hassan Mead (2011, 2009, 2008), Antonio Vega (2005) and Andrew Carlson (2004, 2002) claiming wins at the NCAA Midwest Regional. 

Last Time Out: Fall Finale and Rocky's Run
Nick Rink paced a 1-2-3 finish for the Minnesota men at the St. John's Fall Finale last Friday as the redshirt junior earned his first career win and gave the Gophers their 13th-straight champion in the men's eight-kilometer race in Collegeville, dating back to 2007. 

Meanwhile, Libby Halbmaier led the way as the women's champion when the Gophers hosted Rocky's Run at Les Bolstad Course last weekend. Halbmaier posted a winning time of 23:03 as she earned her second finish as Minnesota's top runner this season and her third collegiate victory of her career, leading 81 total finishers in the open six-kilometer race.

NCAA Selection Awaits
The NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Committee will announce the automatic teams, at-large teams and individual men and women qualifiers to the 2019 DI cross country championships on Saturday, Nov. 16. The selection show begins at 4 p.m. CT on NCAA.com. The top two finishers in each regional automatically qualify for the national championships, equating to 18 immediate team qualifiers. The top-four individual finishers that are not a member of qualifying teams will enter the championships as individuals. Two additional individuals and 13 at-large teams will be selected by the committee to round out the 255 total participants.

The 2019 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23 at LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Ind. The women's 6K race will begin at 10:15 a.m. CT with the men's 10K scheduled for 11:15 a.m. CT.
