Gophers Fall in Four

After four close sets, the No. 5 University of Minnesota volleyball team fell to No. 7 University of Wisconsin, 22-25, 25-23, 28-30, 27-29. The Golden Gophers go to 19-4 overall and 13-2 in the Big Ten, while Wisconsin improves to 18-5 overall and 14-1 in conference play.
Adanna Rollins led the Gophers with 16 kills. She also had 14 digs and four blocks. Airi Miyabe offered up 12 kills, three digs and two blocks. Alexis Hart had 12 kills for the Gophers, as well as three digs and three blocks. Regan Pittman had 11 kills, hitting .647. She also added a match-best six blocks, three digs and one ace. Taylor Morgan had eight kills, one dig and three blocks. Stephanie Samedy offered up five kills, four digs and one block for the Gophers. Bayley McMenimen had 29 assists, two digs and one ace. Tamara Dolonga added 23 assists and five digs. CC McGraw had a match-best 28 digs, as well as two aces.
As a team, Minnesota had 64 kills, 73 digs, 10 blocks and hit .284. Wisconsin had 82 kills, 76 digs, 10 blocks and hit .313.

How They Won the Set
First Set: The Gophers and Wisconsin went back and forth for the majority of the set, with eleven tied scores and four lead changes. Wisconsin went on a three-point run in the middle of the set off three-straight kills, to solidify the set win for Wisconsin. The Badgers hit .487 with 23 kills to earn the set 22-25.
Second Set: The momentum of the game shifted for the Golden Gophers, with the second set opening on two back-to-back kills from Samedy. The Gophers maintained the lead for the duration of the set, assisted by six kills from Hart, and four kills each from Rollins and Miyabe. McGraw held up the back end of the court with eight digs. The Gophers won the set over Wisconsin 25-23. Minnesota hit .244 to Wisconsin's .170.
Third Set: The two teams exchanged points throughout the entire set, with 14 tie scores and three lead changes. With Wisconsin up, 22-20, Minnesota tied the set at 22 and exchanged points through 28-28. The Badgers took the third set 28-30 with back-to-back kills.
Fourth Set: Despite a valent comeback, Minnesota fell in the fourth, 27-29. As the Gophers trailed, 17-23, Minnesota came back to tie the set at 24. Minnesota was up, 27-26, but Wisconsin delivered three-straight kills for the set and match win.
