Korzenowski, Basten Lead ‘U’ at Big Tens

Anastasia Korzenowski and Alec Basten led the Gophers at the B1G Championships on Sunday.
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Anastasia Korzenowski and Alec Basten led the Golden Gopher cross country program as the Maroon & Gold competed at the 2019 Big Ten Conference Cross Country Championships at Ohio State University Golf Club on Sunday morning.
The Gopher women placed seventh in the team race with 145 points led by Korzenowski's seventh-place individual showing. Korzenowski led the Maroon & Gold for the fourth time this season in a career-best 20:27.6 for the six-kilometer course. Abby Kohut-Jackson (24th, 21:01.3), Jaycie Thomsen (30th, 21:10.2), Sarah Werking (40th, career-best 21:15.4), and Lindsey Greenlund (47th, career-best 21:20.4) completed Minnesota's top five scorers. Michigan State took home the women's team title with 56 points while Wisconsin's Alicia Monson defended her B1G individual crown (20:05.4).
The men's squad finished eighth in the team competition with 193 points, led by Basten's 18th-place finish. The redshirt junior, who finished the eight-kilometer course in 24:27.3, has now led the Maroon & Gold in each of his three races this season. Jack Manderscheid (37th, 24:50.9), Jordan MacIntosh (43rd, 24:54.8), Connor Olson (47th, 24:58.6) and Khalid Hussein (48th, 24:59.9) closed out the scoring for the Gophers. Wisconsin claimed both the team title with 56 points and the individual medal in Oliver Hoare (23:50.9).
