Gophers Head To Madison For First B1G Match

After a weekend in Memphis, Tenn. the University of Minnesota women's tennis team heads next door to Madison, Wis. for a pair of matches against the Utah Utes and Wisconsin Badgers. The Gophers will face-off against the Utes on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 12pm CT with their second match against the Badgers taking place Sunday, Feb. 24 at 1pm CT.
Doubles
Two doubles teams lead the way for the Gophers with a 4-1 record in the spring season. The No. 1 duo of Caitlyn Merzbacher and Cammy Frei have looked strong at the top of the lineup with their only loss coming in their most recent match with the Memphis Tigers. Similarly, the No. 2 combo of Tina Kreinis and Tiffany Huber have yet to drop a doubles match since their season opener against the now #5 UCLA Bruins. Overall, the Gophers boast a 13-4 dual doubles record across the four cycling doubles pairings.
Singles
Gophers' senior, Bita Mancera has fought hard out of the No. 3 singles position to a 7-0 dual record on the season. Following close behind, Huber has made an impact out of No. 2 spot with a 6-2 dual record in her first season donning the Maroon and Gold.
What To Expect
Coming off two-straight road losses against Mizzou and Memphis the Gophers look to get back in the win column against the Utes and Badgers. Despite downing the Gophers last season 4-3 during the Courtside Classic at Baseline Tennis Center, the Utes enter this weekend's matches with a 4-2 record. On Sunday, the Gophers will get their first Big Ten test of the year against neighboring rival, Wisconsin. The Badgers currently hold a 7-1 overall record with an unscathed 6-0 home record.
