MINNEAPOLIS – After a three-month layoff since the conclusion of the fall slate in mid-October, the Minnesota men's golf team is back in action this weekend at the 11th annual Big Ten Match Play Championship.

All 14 Big Ten teams have been drawn into a single-elimination bracket, with the seeds determined using the Nov. 20, 2018, final fall Golfstat rankings. Each team match will consist of six individual matches at the Conservatory and Ocean courses at the Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Fla.

Earning the No. 7 seed, Minnesota opens competition Friday against No. 10 Maryland at 7 a.m. CT on the Conservatory Course.

The Golden Gophers will then take on either No. 2 Northwestern at 12:30 p.m. (CT) Friday on the Ocean course, or the loser between No. 8 Michigan State and No. 9 Indiana at the Conservatory Course.

Saturday's schedule will be determined by Friday's results. The morning session (7 a.m. CT) features the championship semifinals and consolation semifinals, while Saturday afternoon concludes with the championship, third-, fifth- and seventh-place matches.

The Gophers' travel contingent will consist of senior Peter Jones, juniors Thomas Longbella and Noah Rasinski, sophomores Angus Flanagan, Evan Long and Gus Minkin, and freshmen Will Grevlos and Lincoln Johnson.

The eight Gophers in attendance this weekend mark the team's top eight scorers from the fall. Flanagan led the squad with an average of 72.13, while Longbella (72.83), Johnson (73.13), Rasinski (73.93) and Long (74.25) rounded out the top five.

In addition to posting the team's top scoring average during the fall, Flanagan also led Minnesota in scores counted (93.3 percent), rounds under par (5) and tournaments with the team's top score (3). He also had the best finish in the fall by coming in sixth at the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate.

As a team, Minnesota earned four top-10 finishes out of five fall tournaments. Its best finishes came at both the season-opening Gopher Invitational and Marquette Intercollegiate where the Gophers tied for fifth each time.

Live scoring for the event can be found on BirdieFire.com, while live updates will be provided on the event's official Twitter handle, @B1GMatchPlay. Big Ten Network will broadcast the 2019 Big Ten Match Play Championship on Saturday, March 2, at 10:30 a.m. CT.
