Gophers Sweep Friday Doubleheader

The Golden Gophers' women's tennis team improved to a 5-1 record and extended their home win streak to four after a 7-0 sweep over the University of Northern Iowa Panthers to conclude Friday's doubleheader.
"I'm really proud of the girls and I'm excited for them" head coach Catrina Thompson said. "They put in the hard work and it is always great to see when it pays off. We've got a great group."
Minnesota will return to Baseline Tennis Center on March 9, 2019 when they host Drake and Iowa State in a doubleheader.
Doubles:
Caitlyn Merzbacher and Cammy Frei set the tone with a strong 6-0 win in the No. 1 doubles spot. As a pairing, Merzbacher and Frei have boasted three wins in their last five showings with two remaining unfinished. In a newly paired No. 3 combination of Juliet Zhang and Bita Mancera the Gophers were able to claim the doubles point with a 6-1 score.
Singles:
The Gophers had dominating wins across the board in singles action highlighted by straight-set 6-0, 6-0 sweeps by both the No. 1 Tina Kreinis and No. 6 Juliet Zhang. In addition to early sweeps, the Gophers received 6-1, 6-1 wins from No. 2 Huber and No. 3 Mancera. Throughout the extent of the singles match-ups with the Panthers the Gophers only dropped eight games. Huber and Mancera have remained undefeated in their last five matches with their only losses of the season coming in the season opener.
