Gophers Win Six Titles at Iowa State

Lexi Kiefer, Sammie Houston, Amira Young, and Zach Nelson won individual titles and the Maroon & Gold claimed both 4x400m relay crowns on day two at the ISU Classic.
AMES, Iowa – Lexi Kiefer, Sammie Houston, Amira Young, and Zach Nelson won individual titles and the Maroon & Gold claimed both 4x400m relay crowns to lead the Golden Gopher track & field team on day two at the Iowa State Classic on Saturday.
The Gophers wrapped up the meet with eight event titles, adding six crowns on day two after Ashley Ramacher (high jump) and Hannah Morris (long jump) won their events on Friday. Teddy Frid also won the pole vault while competing unattached at the meet.
Minnesota won two titles in the field events on day two of the meet as Kiefer won women's pole vault with a season-best mark of 3.95m (12-11.50), and Houston won men's triple jump with a career-best mark of 15.28m (50-01.75) to push him into ninth among all-time Gophers.
On the track, the Gophers swept the 60m dash titles as Young won the women's race in 7.54 seconds and Nelson took home top honors in the men's race in 6.88 seconds.
The women's 4x400m relay team of Rachel Schow, Sophia Anderson, Young, and Val Larson wrapped up the meet with a winning time of 3:45.38 while the men's team of Jonathan Webb, Elliott Davis, Nelson, and Ben Psicihulis won the men's race in 3:10.61.
Day two at the Iowa State Classic also saw Paige Peschel move into 10th in Gophers' history with an 800m PR of 2:09.02, leading four Gopher women with career bests in the race: Peschel (2:09.02), Kelli Schmidt (2:10.32), Sophie Schmitz (2:11.27), and Lindsey Greenlund (2:12.77).
Five Gophers recorded top-five finishes in the men's 400m led by runner-up Ben Psicihulis in a career-best 47.71 seconds. Elliott Davis placed fourth (48.39 seconds) and Jonathan Webb finished fifth (48.56 seconds). Larson led the Gopher women in the 400m dash, clocking a third-place time of 55.90 seconds in her first 400m race of the season as well.
Other field event highlights saw Lorean Murray finish as triple jump runner-up for the women with a mark of 12.08m (39-07.75), and Ben Gucinski tie for fifth in high jump (1.96m, 6-05.00) for the men.
Megan Hasz (5,000m) and Bethany Hasz (3,000m) broke Minnesota program records while Patty O'Brien, Obsa Ali, and Alex Basten each recorded all-time top-10 times in the 5,000m on day one of the meet on Friday.
The Gophers wrap up the regular season by hosting two days of competition at the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse next week. The Gopher men will compete at the Snowshoe Open on Friday, Feb. 15 before the Gopher women host the Parents Day Invite on Saturday, Feb. 16.
