Gophers Complete Final Scrimmage to Begin Spring Season

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Gopher Rowing team returned to California sun and open water on Friday afternoon to scrimmage San Diego at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center on Otay Lake.
A shift of the schedule from Saturday morning to Friday afternoon did not slow Minnesota in its final tune-up before competing at a pair of Invitational events later this month in Tennessee and New Jersey. In the Gophers' first chance to compete on the water since early last month's scrimmage against San Diego State, the Maroon & Gold continued to show growth from the fall.
Minnesota impressed using a variety of line-ups as the teams competed in two, 2,000-meter races and additional 250-meter starts. The team will remain in San Diego over the weekend to continue its training on the water.
The Gophers return to competition in two weeks at the Louisville Cardinal Invitational in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The two-day event takes place Saturday and Sunday, March 16-17 on Melton Lake.
