STARTING FIVE
• The seventh-seeded Minnesota men's basketball team opens play in the 2019 Big Ten Tournament, facing Penn State in second round action. The seventh seed matches the second-highest for the Gophers in the last nine seasons.
• The Gophers edged the Nittany Lions, 65-64, in Minneapolis on Jan. 19 in the two teams' lone meeting. This is their fourth meeting in the Big Ten Tournament, with all three previous games a win for the Gophers.
• A pair of Gophers earned All-Big Ten honors, as senior forward Jordan Murphy was named to the first team (media) and second team (coaches), while junior guard Amir Coffey earned a spot on both panels' third team. It is the third straight season that the Gophers have earned an All-Big Ten honoree.
• Coffey also picked up more awards on Monday as he repeated as the Big Ten's Player of the Week, sharing the award with Indiana's Juwan Morgan. In the win over Big Ten co-champion Purdue, Coffey poured in a career high-tying 32 points and added eight rebounds, three assists and three steals. He followed that up with game highs of 23 points and six assists to go with three rebounds and a steal at Maryland..
• Murphy, a two-time Big Ten Player of the Week, finished second in Big Ten play in rebounding, pulling down 10.8 boards per game, and leads in overall rebounding with 11.7 rebounds per game on the season, fifth in the nation. His 1,272 career rebounds ranks second in Big Ten Conference history. His 21 double-doubles is second in the nation. With 1,732 career points, Murphy is fifth among all-time Gophers, needing 33 points to tie Andre Hollins for fourth place (1,765).

SCOUTING THE NITTANY LIONS
• Penn State has been one of the hottest teams in the Big Ten to wrap up the regular season, winners of five of their final six games, including back-to-back victories at Rutgers and at home against Illinois last week.
• Lamar Stevens, an All-Big Ten first team (coaches) selection, leads the PSU offense scoring 19.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, the former ranking second in the conference.

UP NEXT
• A win over the Nittany Lions would give the Gophers a berth in the quarterfinal round, where they would face Big Ten co-champion and No. 2 seed Purdue Friday night.
• Tip off from United Center is scheduled for 6:00 p.m., with BTN and KFAN 100.3 FM calling the game live.
