• Thursday saw a Gophers' victory over Penn State, 77-72, in overtime, marking the fourth time in six seasons that head coach Richard Pitino's squad has earned a victory in their opening game at the Big Ten Tournament. The Gophers split with the Boilermakers this season, with each team winning on their home court.
• A pair of Gophers earned All-Big Ten honors, as senior forward Jordan Murphy was named to the first team (media) and second team (coaches), while junior guard Amir Coffey earned a spot on both panels' third team. It is the third straight season that the Gophers have earned an All-Big Ten honoree.
• Coffey also picked up more awards on Monday as he repeated as the Big Ten's Player of the Week, sharing the award with Indiana's Juwan Morgan. In the win over Big Ten co-champion Purdue, Coffey poured in a career high-tying 32 points and added eight rebounds, three assists and three steals. He followed that up with game highs of 23 points and six assists to go with three rebounds and a steal at Maryland..
• Murphy, a two-time Big Ten Player of the Week, finished second in Big Ten play in rebounding, pulling down 10.8 boards per game, and leads in overall rebounding with 11.8 rebounds per game on the season, fifth in the nation. His 1,286 career rebounds ranks second in Big Ten Conference history. His 22 double-doubles is second in the nation. With 1,747 career points, Murphy is fifth among all-time Gophers, needing 18 points to tie Andre Hollins for fourth place (1,765).
