Gophers Set to Tee Off at Furman Intercollegiate

MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota men's golf team is in action this weekend at the 50th annual Furman Intercollegiate in Greenville, S.C.
The 20-team tournament will be held at the Furman University Golf Course, which is playing as a par-71 at 6,994 yards, with 18 holes each on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Friday's opening round will see the Gophers tee off at 7:20 a.m. CT.
Competing for the Golden Gophers will be junior Thomas Longbella, sophomores Angus Flanagan and Evan Long, and freshmen Lincoln Johnson and Harry Plowman-Ollington. This will be the first time the Gophers have used this lineup this season. In addition to those five, junior Noah Rasinski and redshirt sophomore Gus Minkin will also take part in the tournament as individuals.
The Gophers' team lineup represents the top four scorers on the season. Flanagan leads the squad with an average of 72.22, while Johnson (73.22) is second, Longbella (73.60) ranks third fourth and Long (74.33) is among four Gophers tied for fourth. Rasinski (74.33) is one of those Gophers also tied with Long, while Plowman-Ollington has an average of 79.22 in nine rounds this year.
Last weekend, Minnesota finished in ninth place at the 40th annual Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Ga. The ninth-place finish marked the fifth time the Gophers have finished in the top 10 in seven tournaments this year. Flanagan was the top Gophers' competitor for the fourth tournament this season, as he finished tied for 21st, while Plowman-Ollington used a career best final round (72) to record the best finish of his young career (tied for 63rd).
