Gophers Open Weekend Competition

Day one of the Duke Invitational was canceled, but members of the team competed locally on Thursday and Friday.
DURHAM, N.C. – Due to severe weather in the area, the first day of competition at the Duke Invitational has been canceled. Most of Friday's events have been rescheduled for Saturday's final day of action.
Minnesota competed in two events before weather brought the competition to a halt in Durham, N.C. Two Gophers finished in the top 10 of the women's hammer throw with Temi Ogunrinde finishing third at 63.31 meters (207-08 ft.) and Kaitlyn Long coming in eighth at 54.60 meters (179-01 ft.). Allison Gerads also tied for fifth in the unseeded women's high jump by tying her season-best height of 1.55 meters (5-01 ft.).
Gophers Compete Locally at Lady Bear Twilight
The Gophers won two events in uniform and picked up another five event titles won by unattached athletes as members of the women's team competed at the Lady Bear Twilight hosted by Concordia St. Paul on Friday afternoon.
Leading the Gophers on the track were Maria Eastman and Abby Kargol as event champions. Eastman won the 1,500-meter run run in a career-best 4:35.60 while Kargol won the 5,000-meter run in a season-best 17:54.31. Jaycie Thomsen (1,500 meters), Bit Klecker (3,000 meter steeplechase), Kelsey Sather (800 meters), and Sarah Werking (5,000 meters) all finished as runners-up in their respective events as well.
Another four individuals won titles while competing unattached: Ayesha Champagnie (long jump), Libby Halbmaier (800 meters), Natalie Windels (400-meter hurdles), and Nayoka Clunis (hammer throw). The unattached 4x400-meter relay team of Windels, Kayla Vogt, Lauren Hansen, and Halbmaier won in 3:55.35 as well.
Gophers Pick Up Six Wins at Tomcat Twilight
Several Minnesota men's competitors were in action on Thursday night in St. Paul as the Gophers picked up six wins at St. Thomas' Tomcat Twilight.
On the track, three events were won by the Maroon & Gold with Hamza Ali leading the men's 5,000 meter field at 14:56.10 while unattached competitor Jackson Wellenstein won the men's 400 meters at 47.81. The Gophers also carried the top-five finishers in the men's 1,500 meters with Nick Rink winning at 3:53.44 followed by Hunter Lucas (3:54.51), Jack Manderscheid (3:54.59), Joe Morrison (3:58.91) and Connor Olson (3:59.42).
Eric Rousemiller picked up a win in the men's shot put behind a personal record of 16.87 meters (55-04.25 ft.) while the Maroon & Gold also swept the horizontal jumps with Mason Roomes just missing his personal record to win the men's long jump at 7.57 meters (24-10.00 ft.), and James Travis winning the men's triple jump at 14.01 meters (45-11.75 ft.).
