Huber Powers 4-3 Clinch Over Nebraska
4/20/2019 1:18:00 PM | Tennis
The University of Minnesota women's tennis team kicked off senior weekend with an impressive 4-3 showing over the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The Gophers took action to the outdoor courts where they battled hard to improve their record to 12-10, 5-5 B1G on the year with a 9-1 home season.
Doubles
The Gophers got on the board early by knocking out two quick doubles wins to clinch the first point. The No. 2 and No. 3 duos secured the doubles win for the Gophers with 6-3 and 6-0 victories respectively.
Singles
Looking to slow down Minnesota's success from doubles, the Huskers battled back in singles by claiming four of the six first sets. However, the Gophers rattled off two, straight-set wins from the No. 3 Bita Mancera and No. 6 Camila Vargas to move within one point of the clinch. Nebraska went on to add a point from the No. 5 slot before Tiffany Huber ultimately clinched the team win in a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 dual. The Gophers fell in the two remaining matches both in third sets to push Nebraska's point total to three.
Up Next
The Gophers will close out the regular season on April 21 in a 'Senior Day' doubleheader. Minnesota will open up Sunday's action with a 10am match against Iowa to close out the Big Ten regular season schedule followed by a non-conference dual with Green Bay at 5pm. Senior Day festivities will take place following the completion of the Green Bay match.
