MINNEAPOLIS – The postseason begins this weekend for the Minnesota men's golf team as it heads to the 2019 Big Ten Championships in Flourtown, Pa., April 26-28.

The Championships are being held at the Philadelphia Cricket Club's Wissahickon Course, which is playing at 7,119 yards and is a par-70. Minnesota will begin play Friday at 8 a.m. CT on the 10th hole. Saturday's second round will also begin at 8 a.m. CT, while Sunday's final round will start at 7 a.m. CT.

Live scoring will be available on Golfstat.com, while the Big Ten Network will broadcast coverage of the tournament on Tuesday, May 7 at 4 p.m. CT.

Minnesota has won the Big Ten team title eight times in its history: 2014, 2007, 2003, 2002, 1972, 1963, 1938 and 1929.

In addition, eight Gophers have won nine individual championships: Jose Mendez (2014), Matt Anderson (2003), John Harris (1974), Jim Bergeson (1972), Dave Haberle (1971), Bill Brask (1968), James Teale (1943), Les Bolstad (1929 and 1927).

Representing Minnesota at the event this year will be junior Thomas Longbella, sophomores Angus Flanagan and Evan Long, and freshmen Will Grevlos, Lincoln Johnson and Harry Plowman-Ollington.

The competing group represents the team's top six scorers so far this spring with Flanagan leading the way at 71.00, while Long (72.83), Johnson (72.92), Grevlos (73.67), Plowman-Ollington (73.92) and Longbella (74.56) follow him. Johnson, Long and Plowman-Ollington have each played in all four tournaments so far this spring for the Gophers.

On the season, Flanagan (71.71), Johnson (73.04), Long (73.56), Longbella (73.57) and Grevlos (73.89) have been the team's top five scorers covering both the spring and fall.

Longbella is making his third appearance at the Big Ten Championships after placing 29th in 2017 and 59th last year. Flanagan and Long each made their debuts at the tournament a year ago, tying for 60th.

Last weekend, Flanagan posted the best finish by a Minnesota men's golfer this spring as he tied for ninth, and the team recorded its second top-five finish in its last three tournaments, at the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa.

Flanagan fired a final round score of 3-under 68 to tie Longbella and Gus Minkin for the best round by a Gopher this spring, while it also gave Flanagan a 54-hole score of 206, which was 7-under-par. It was the best 54-hole score by a Gopher this season and the lowest score to par this year. Flanagan owned those two marks previously as he was 3-under with a 207 at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate in September.
