Sadie Harper Scores First Career Goal as Gophers Draw Razorbacks

OXFORD, Miss. ā The Gophers soccer team registered a 1-1 draw against the Arkansas Razorbacks in their first game of the Rebel Classic in Oxford, Mississippi.
Freshman Sadie Harper, a Lino Lakes, Minnesota native, scored the Gophers lone goal in the 53rd minute. Harper's first shot of the game went off the post around 40th minute before she was able to put it home after halftime. Harper knocked her goal home into the top of the twine after an assist from Haley Hartkemeyer put her in position.
Harper, a Centennial High School graduate, has appeared in all three games so far in her rookie campaign playing more minutes each game.
"That goal was a direct result of 'Hartkey' and Sadie just grinding and having some grit to get after it," head coach Stef Golan said. "It doesn't have to be pretty all the time it just has to happen."
This is the second time the Gophers have needed more than 90 minutes to settle a game after the Maroon and Gold went into extra time during the season opener against UC Santa Barbara on Aug. 22. Both games ended in draws.
Towards the end of the first half, in the 42nd minute, freshman forward Manthy Brady sailed a ball over the crossbar despite a great Gophers offensive opportunity. At the end of the day, the Gophers finished with six shots, including three on target.
Forward Paige Elliott made the first start of her career in Thursday's game.
The Arkansas goal came in the 21st minute off a curling shot from the Razorbacks' Anna Podojil.
