Gophers Earn Three Top-25 Finishes at Maui Jim Intercollegiate

MINNEAPOLIS – Three Gophers finished in the top 25 as the Minnesota men's golf team tied for ninth place at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate in Scottsdale, Ariz.
The Golden Gophers were 3-over as a team Sunday with a 283, giving them a 54-hole total of 831 (279-269-283). The 9-under par score was the team's lowest score to par since going 17-under at the 2016 Alister Mackenzie Invitational.
Arizona State took home the team title with a 38-under 802, while Arizona (809) and Clemson (811) came in second and third, respectively. Individually, Arizona State's Cameron Sisk came out victorious with a 14-under 196, followed by Clemson's Turk Pettit (198) and a five-way tie for third place.
Minnesota's top finisher was senior Thomas Longbella, the fifth time in his career he led the team in a tournament and his first since The Goodwin in March of 2018. He finished in a tie for 15th place at 6-under (204) following a 2-over 72 in Sunday's round.
Junior Angus Flanagan and freshman Connor Glynn each finished in a tie for 24th at 3-under with scores of 207 each. Flanagan shot a 4-under 66 Sunday, highlighted by a front nine that featured five birdies. Meanwhile Glynn was 1-under on the day with a 69. With a pair of birdies to cancel out a pair of bogeys through 16 holes, he birdied No. 17 to finish the day in the red.
Junior Evan Long, fresh off his 65 Saturday, posted a 6-over 76 Sunday to end in a tie for 51st at 3-over, while senior Noah Rasinski had an 8-over 78 in the final round to complete his round at 10-over and in a tie for 67th.
Meanwhile, at the Mea Lanakila Individual, freshman Harrison Arnold matched a career best with a 72 to climb six spots and finish in a tie for 13th. He recorded a 5-over 221.
Minnesota is off this weekend before heading to Yale for the Macdonald Cup, Sept. 28-29.
