Men's Golf Set to Compete at Macdonald Cup

MINNEAPOLIS – After a week off from competition, the Minnesota men's golf team is back in action this weekend at the 44th edition of the Macdonald Cup in New Haven, Conn. The tournament is taking place at Yale Golf Course, which is playing at 6,749 yards with a par of 70.
Yale is set to host the tournament, which features a field comprised mainly of teams from the Northeast. Brown, Bucknell, Colgate, Fairfield, Fordham, Harvard, LaSalle, Penn, Princeton and St. John's join the Gophers and host-Bulldogs in the 12-team field. The tournament consists of 36 holes Saturday and finishes with 18 on Sunday.
Minnesota, which is competing in the tournament for the first time since Jon DuToit won the individual title in 2015, will be represented by seniors Thomas Longbella and Noah Rasinski, juniors Angus Flanagan and Evan Long, and freshmen Harrison Arnold and Connor Glynn. All six Gophers will be competing for the team score, with the top four scores being counted.
The six Gophers in attendance this weekend represent the top six scoring averages on the team this year. Flanagan leads the way at 70.67, followed by Glynn (70.83), Longbella (71.17), Long (72.83), Rasinski (73.00) and Arnold (73.50).
Flanagan and Glynn both lead the team with three rounds under par this year, while Flanagan and Longbella have been the top finishers at the team's two tournaments, respectively.
Minnesota has a pair of top-10 finishes so far this fall, including a tie for ninth at its last tournament, the Maui Jim Intercollegiate. Three Gophers finished in the top 25, led by Longbella, who tied for 15th. Meanwhile, Flanagan and Glynn each finished in a tie for 24th.
