The Gophers wrapped up non-conference play with a 4-1 win over Yale on Sunday.

MINNEAPOLIS -- The No. 2 University of Minnesota women's hockey team wrapped up non-conference play with a 4-1 win over Yale at Ridder Arena on Sunday afternoon. The Golden Gophers were led by two points each from Amy Potomak, Sarah Potomak, and Grace Zumwinkle, and Taylor Wente scored the game-winner.

Minnesota (17-1-3, 9-1-2-1 WCHA) took a 3-0 lead before Yale (7-8-0, 4-4-0 ECAC Hockey) got on the board with a power-play goal at the 15:05 mark of the third period, but Zumwinkle scored her second goal of the game to regain the three-goal lead just 1:12 later. Sydney ScobeeĀ made 17 saves as the Gophers outshotĀ the visitors, 39-18, and the Bulldogs received a 35-save effort from Gianna Meloni.Ā

Player of the Game
A.Ā PotomakĀ set off Minnesota's annual teddy bear toss and gave the Gophers the 1-0 lead when she scored an unassisted goal on the rush with 1:46 remaining in the opening period. She set the tone for the game, scoring the game's first goal and tallying an assist on Wente's game-winner. Her two-point effort included her 49th and 50th career points as a Gopher as well (19g-31a).

Quotable
"I thought our team responded well today, in particular defensively we played much better, stopping pucks and being strong on our sticks," head coach Brad Frost said. "We had a lot of great chances. Their goaltender played well. Overall, it was just a really solid game for 60 minutes for our team, and we're happy with the sweep. The second half is going to fly by, and we know that, so we want to cherish every moment."

Up Next
The Gophers return to conference play by traveling to St. Cloud, Minn., for a series with the Huskies next weekend. Puck drop between Minnesota and St. Cloud State is at 6:07 p.m. CT Friday, Jan. 10 and 3:07 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11.
