FIVE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
1. Minnesota hits the road again this week as it travels to Champaign, Ill., to face the Illinois Fighting Illini. The Gophers lead the all-time series against the Illini 39-30-3 and have won four of the last five against Illinois. The Gophers are 14-5 in their last 19 games against Illinois and are 6-3 in their last nine games on the road against the Illini.
2. Rashod Bateman, Mohamed Ibrahim and Tanner Morgan have hit significant milestones this year. Bateman (receiving) and Ibrahim (rushing) eclipsed 2,000 career yards this year. Bateman has 163 receiving yards this year and now has 2,086 career receiving yards, which ranks seventh all-time in school history. Ibrahim has 347 rushing yards this year and now has 2,111 career rushing yards, which ranks 17th all-time in school history. Morgan has thrown for 386 yards this season and now has 5,040 career passing yards, which ranks eighth all-time in school history.
3. Mohamed Ibrahim rushed a career high 41 times (most for a Gopher since Laurence Maroney rushed 43 times against Wisconsin) for 207 yards (second most of his career) and four touchdowns (career high) at Maryland. His four touchdowns, which all came in the first half, tied a school record. Former quarterback Mitch Leidner was the last Gopher to rush for four scores in one game, doing so against San Jose State in 2013. Ibrahim was the first Gopher to rush for four touchdowns in a Big Ten game since John King against Iowa in 1972. Ibrahim became the second Gopher ever to rush for four touchdowns in one half, joining Minnesota's all-time rushing leader (and radio analyst) Darrell Thomson. Thompson rushed for four second-half scores against Bowling Green in 1986.
4. Mohamed Ibrahim leads the Big Ten in rushing attempts (67), rushing yards (347), rushing touchdowns (6) and scoring (36). He scored Minnesota's final two touchdowns against Michigan and then scored Minnesota's first four touchdowns at Maryland. Ibrahim's six touchdowns have covered a collective 26 yards (16 and 5 yards against Michigan and 1, 2, 1 and 1 yards at Maryland). His 22 career touchdowns (9 in 2018, 7 in 2019 and 6 in 2020) rank 10th in school history. Ibrahim's eight career 100-yard rushing games ranks tied for 11th in school history (one more would tie him for ninth). Ibrahim's two career 200-yard rushing games (224 yards against Georgia Tech in 2018 Quick Lane Bowl and 207 yards at Maryland in 2020) rank tied for fifth in school history with David Cobb, Terry Jackson and Tellis Redmon. Laurence Maroney, Chris Darkins, Darrell Thompson and Gary White all ended their careers with three 200-yard games.
5. Mohamed Ibrahim totaled 227 all-purpose yards (207 rushing and 20 kick return) at Maryland. It was his second career game with more than 200 all-purpose yards, as he rushed for 224 yards against Georgia Tech in 2018. Ibrahim's performance at Maryland ranks tied (Bob McNamara vs. Iowa in 1954) for 35th all-time in school history in all-purpose yards.
