MINNEAPOLIS – University of Minnesota second baseman Zack Raabe was named a Preseason Second Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball newspaper, as announced by the publication on Tuesday morning.
Raabe's Preseason All-America status comes on the heels of a 2020 season in which he led the entire nation in hits (31) while slashing .463/.526/.612 with one home run, seven doubles, 16 runs scored and 10 RBI. That batting line featured a .612 slugging percentage, up .296 points from the .316 mark Raabe posted as a freshman in 2019. He finished the year with the eighth-highest batting average in the country, while ranking first in the Big Ten Conference in average and hits, second in total bases (41) and on-base percentage, third in doubles and sixth in slugging percentage.
As a result of his breakout sophomore campaign, Collegiate Baseball awarded Raabe with 2020 Second Team All-America honors back in May. Additionally, the Gopher second baseman was ranked as the No. 5 player at his position in the NCAA in D1Baseball's 2020 end-of-season positional power rankings.
Heading into his true junior season, Raabe has 55 career starts under his belt and a total of 68 games played. His career totals reflect a .329/.395/.405 batting line with one home run, one triple, 12 doubles, 31 runs scored, 28 RBI and seven stolen bases. Raabe enters 2021 riding an active 10-game on-base streak, having also notched six games with three hits or more a season ago.
Tuesday's announcement marks the third consecutive year that a member of the Gophers has garnered Preseason All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball. Last season, Max Meyer was named a Preseason Third Team All-American by the outlet. In 2019, Patrick Fredrickson received Preseason Second Team All-America Honors, while Meyer was named to the Third Team.
