Gophers Drop Game Two to UMD

After a 5-0 win in game one, No. 2 Minnesota fell 2-0 to No. 9 Minnesota Duluth on Saturday.
MINNEAPOLIS -- The No. 2 Golden Gopher women's hockey team dropped a 2-0 decision to No. 9 Minnesota Duluth at Ridder Arena on Saturday evening.
Minnesota (21-5-3, 13-5-2-1 WCHA) was shut out for just the second time this season despite holding a 35-24 advantage in shots on goal for the game. The Gophers were scoreless on five power plays while also holding the Bulldogs to 0-for-5 with the skater advantage.
Minnesota Duluth (13-9-4, 8-7-3-2 WCHA) got the eventual game-winner from Gabbie Hughes just 1:28 into the game before Sydney Brodt doubled the visitors' lead at the 13:11 mark of the middle frame. Maddie Rooney made 35 saves for the Bulldogs as well.

"Tough result here," head coach Brad Frost said. "I'm proud of our team and the way we competed tonight. We ran into an incredibly hot goaltender—Maddie played really well. We put 35 quality shots up on her and she made it look easy here tonight. We have to turn the page and have to focus on Bemidji this weekend. We know it will be tough on the road, but we'll be ready to go."

With four regular-season games remaining, Minnesota is second in the WCHA standings with 42 points. Wisconsin leads the league with 43 points and seven games remaining. Ohio State (36 points, six games remaining), Minnesota Duluth (29 points, six games remaining) round out the top four teams.
