Minnesota Earns Third Sweep at Home over Bulldogs, Coyotes

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The University of Minnesota women's tennis team would end the night with a pair of sweeps over the Drake University Bulldogs and the South Dakota Coyotes today at Baseline Tennis Center. The Gophers beat both teams 7-0 to improve their record to 8-2 on the season. Most notably, the Maroon and Gold are undefeated at home with eight wins and have won 17 of their last 18 matches at Baseline.
MATCH 1: MINNESOTA vs DRAKE
Doubles
Doubles competition would be a challenge for the Gophers. Tiffany Huber/Cammy Frei fell early to the Bulldogs top tandem of Liza Petushkova and Joely Lomas. Juliet Zhang/River Hart would take the second match over Drake. Rallying for their teammates in the No. 2 spot, Dalila Said and Ekin Ercetin would earn the doubles point for Minnesota.
Singles
Carrying their momentum into singles play, the Gophers were able to come out on top over their non conference opponent. Five of the six victories came from second set wins. This would be the fifth match that Minnesota swept their opponents in singles play.
MATCH 2: MINNESOTA vs SOUTH DAKOTA
Doubles
It was a quick round of doubles for the Gophers and Coyotes. Making her return to Baseline, senior Tina Kreinis was paired with Tiffany Huber, they pulled out the first win of the night in the No. 1 doubles spot. Juliet Zhang and Lucia de Santa Ana would finish out doubles play and put Minnesota on the board early.
Singles
The Maroon and Gold would continue their home court dominance in singles play. Earning six of the seven points, Ekin Ercetin, Cammy Frei, Juliet Zhang, Lucia de Santa Ana and Tiffany Huber would all defeat their opponents in two sets. In her first home singles match of the season, Tina Kreinis picked off the last point in a tie breaker match over Jana Lazarevic; leading the Gophers to their second 7-0 victory of the night.
NOTABLE
With the sweep tonight, the Gophers improve their record to 8-2 on the season. Undefeated at home with a seven game win streak, Minnesota has won 17 of their last 18 matches at Baseline.

"I'm really proud of the team, doubleheaders are not easy," said head coach Catrina Thompson. "I thought everyone on the lineup competed well and credit to the team for winning both matches 7-0."
