Minnesota Downs Memphis 4-1 in Clinch-Clinch Victory

MINNEAPOLIS - Claiming revenge from last year's loss, the University of Minnesota women's tennis team downed the Memphis Tigers 4-1 in a clinch-clinch victory. With this win, the Gophers improve to a record of 9-2 on the 2020 season and will head into their next match on Sunday against Missouri undefeated at home.
DOUBLES
Minnesota had three quick doubles matches to win the point over Memphis. Dalila Said and Ekin Ercetin took the first point 6-1 while River Hart and Juliet Zhang won the second battle 6-3. Following both duos, Tina Kreinis and Cammy Frei finished it off with a 6-4 win.
SINGLES
After clinching the doubles point, Minnesota wrapped up singles play in three tight matches. Ekin Ercetin got the first point 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 while Tina Kreinis added to the score winning 6-1, 7-6. In a close match, Tiffany Huber would claim the last point 7-5, 7-6 to edge out the Tigers.
NOTABLE
Minnesota improves their record to 9-2 on the season. Undefeated at home with an eight game win streak, Minnesota has won 18 of their last 19 matches at Baseline.
QUOTABLE
"We knew it was going to be a tough battle today," said head coach Catrina Thompson. "Memphis is a really well coached, strong team and to get the win over them was a team effort. Everybody stepped up in their spot."
