Gophers Conclude Competition at B1G Championships

2/22/2020 10:40:00 PM | Women's Swimming & Diving

With the final day of competition in Iowa City in the rearview, the Gophers concluded the 2020 Big Ten Conference Championships with a sixth finish place overall, ending with 617 points.

Lindsey Kozelsky continued her dominance in her senior year campaign, as the Albert Lea native touched seventh in the 200 breaststroke, registering a time of 2:08.66. Freshman Emma Lezer also qualified for the evening finals session, touching 19th (2:13.10) in the event and setting a personal best in the process.

Tied with Kozelsky for the best finish of the night was team captain Tevyn Waddell, who recorded a seventh place finish in the 200 backstroke (1:54.62).

The 200 butterfly proved to be one of the more exciting events for Minnesota on day four. In the preliminaries, Kate Sullivan dropped her lifetime best to 1:58.90, forcing her into a swim-off for a spot in the B final.

In her winner-take-all swim-off, Sullivan dropped 0.14 seconds to record another personal best. The sophomore needed every hundredth as she beat out her competition by only 0.03 seconds. Sullivan would go on to place 16th overall, touching in 1:59.62 in the B final.

Jordan McGinty was the sole Gopher to partake in the 100 freestyle finals, as she finished 19th overall with a time of 50.02 seconds.

In the final event of the competition, the quartet of Waddell, McGinty, Olivia Bloomer, and Sullivan notched another top-eight finish for the Gophers with an eighth place result in the 400 free relay.

Day four also saw the Gophers haul in a series of new personal bests.
