The No. 18/18 University of Minnesota Gophers used a full team attack to top Binghamton 11-0 in six innings and overcame Auburn, 5-4, on their home turf in a back-and-forth battle to go 2-0 on the day and move to 10-6 on the season.Ā
Game One: Minnesota 11, Binghamton 0 (6)Ā
The Gophers notched a number of career firsts in an 11-0 six inning run-rule victory over Binghamton to start the day. Emily Hansen recorded her first career home run, Macy Gill tallied her first ever hit and RBI and Ava Dueck made her first ever appearance in the circle with a pair of strikeouts.Ā
Ali Lindner went 3-4 in the game. The second of her career high three hits came in the fourth inning with an RBI-single to center. MaKenna Partain launched her third home run of the season later in the inning to make it 3-0 and a fourth run came in on an error.Ā
Partain tied her career high, four RBIS, when she drove in another two runs in the fifth inning with a double to the gap in left.Ā
The Maroon and Gold ran away with the game in the sixth inning. Hansen got it going with a solo home run to center. The Gophers loaded the bases with no outs and Gill placed a single over second base to bring in another run. Carlie Brandt then cleared the bases with a double off the wall in left.Ā
Autumn Pease moved to 4-1 on the season with the combined shutout victory. She only allowed two hits in five innings with a season high eight strikeouts. Dueck put Binghamton down in order in her first ever appearance with a pair of strikeouts in the sixth inning.Ā
Game Two: Minnesota 5, Auburn 4
The Gophers jumped on the board right away in the top of the first. They strung two singles and a walk together before freshman Sydney Strelow laced a shot through the right side to bring in two runs.Ā
Auburn cut into the lead with a run of their own in the bottom of the first. They attempted to tie things up in the frame as a runner from third took off on a wild pitch, but Strelow corralled it and dove towards home to apply the tag in time for out three.Ā
The back-and-forth action continued throughout the evening. The Gophers added a run on an error in the second and Auburn put one across in the third.Ā
The Gophers pulled ahead by two in the fourth. Brooke Vander Heide recorded a bunt single and made it to second on a throwing error. She scored on a chopper up the middle by Partain.Ā
Auburn responded in the bottom of the fourth with two runs to tie things up.Ā
After quiet fifth and sixth innings for both teams, Natalie DenHartog led off the seventh with a single through the left side. Hansen moved her on a sacrifice bunt and she scooted to third on a wild pitch. Auburn forced a groundout and were one out away from keeping things tied when Katelyn Kemmetmueller stepped to the plate. The senior from Rogers, Minn. delivered a well placed hit down the right field line to bring in the go-ahead run on an RBI-double. It was great timing on her first extra base hit of the season.Ā
Amber Fiser got the start in the circle. She saved her most impressive frame for last with a pair of strikeouts and an induced groundout to sit Auburn down in order and seal the victory in the bottom of the seventh. She moves to 6-5 on the season after her sixth double-digit strikeout performance this year. The NCAA active career strikeout leader already has 101 strikeouts this season.Ā

On Kemmetmueller's big hit..."She had a really good day," Trachsel said. "She got down in the count and battled back. She ran hard and got herself in scoring position too. Natalie (DenHartog) did a great job leading off and we got her over to help setup Katie's hit."Ā
