American Cup Up Next for Wiskus

Shane Wiskus is trading in maroon and gold for red, white and blue this weekend as he competes for his country at the annual USA Gymnastics American Cup.
The American Cup is the first event in a series of four International Gymnastics Federation World Cups. Gymnasts from the United States and 10 other countries will compete in the meet, with Olympic qualification points up for grabs. Wiskus will compete for the U.S. alongside two-time Olympian and Michigan alum Sam Mikulak.
As the wildcard entry, Wiskus cannot earn points toward Olympic qualification, but can contribute to the United States' historically successful run at the American Cup. Seven of the last 10 men's all-around titles at the event have been won by the U.S. team members.
It will also be another opportunity for Wiskus to add to his international competition resume as Olympic preparation ramps up. He and Mikulak were members of the 2019 World Championships team that competed in Stuttgart, Germany late last year, where the U.S. men took fourth place.
Wiskus was assigned to this year's American Cup after a stellar performance at the USA Gymnastics Winter Cup Challenge last month. Mikulak and Wiskus went No. 1 and No. 2 in the all-around competition, and Shane also had top 10 finishes on vault (28.750, T2), high bar (26.600, 7th) and floor (27.950, 8th). He finished in the top 20 on all but one event in the meet, and retained his spot on the U.S. Senior National Team.
The American Cup is set to kick off at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 7 at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wis. Webcast info will be announced prior to the meet, but the competition will also air on NBCSN starting at 4 p.m. Updates will also be provided via the Minnesota men's gymnastics Twitter, Facebook and Instagram pages. Wiskus will compete in Olympic order on Saturday: floor, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars and high bar.
