3/4/2020 4:56:00 PM | Tennis
The University of Minnesota women's tennis team returns to Baseline Tennis Center this weekend with a pair of B1G dual matches against Rutgers and Border Battle rival, Wisconsin. After a tough weekend in Colorado, the Gophers look to compete in their first conference home series of the season.
"This weekend we start conference play and have two challenging but good opportunities in front of us," said head coach Catrina Thompson. "We need to stay healthy, play solid and capitalize on opportunities when we have them this weekend."
ABOUT THE GOPHERS
After a weekend on the road, Minnesota will return to Baseline with a 10-3 record. Last weekend, they fell to the Colorado Buffaloes 4-1 marking their first loss in 11 matches. Before going unfinished, juniors River Hart and Juliet Zhang kept their match tight with a score of 5-5. Minnesota's sole win came from Dalila Said who defeated Antonia Balzert 6-1, 6-3.
ABOUT THE SCARLET KNIGHTS
The Scarlet Knights trek to Minneapolis with a record of 8-3, they are 0-2 in the B1G with losses coming from Maryland and Nebraska. Last weekend, they clinched a 5-2 win over Delaware with wins coming from doubles play and the No. 1, 2, 5 and 6 singles spots. Rutgers is led by sophomore Tess Fisher, who is 7-4 for singles and has won six of her last ten matches.
ABOUT THE BADGERS
Ranked #21 by the ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association), the Wisconsin Badgers head into this weekend's Border Battle with an eight game win streak. They've had notable wins over William & Mary, VCU and #45 Denver and look to clinch their first B1G match over the Gophers. Antonia Stoica has helped the Badgers to their almost perfect record.
