MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The University of Minnesota women's tennis team picked up their first Big Ten conference win today over Rutgers. It would be a quick sweep for the Gophers, ending the match within two and a half hours of the start time. The Maroon & Gold improve their record to 11-3 (1-0 B1G) while the Scarlet Knights drops theirs to 8-4 (0-3 B1G).

Minnesota is 9-0 at home this year. With wins coming over North Dakota, Northern Iowa, Iowa, Marquette, Drake, South Dakota, Memphis, Missouri and Rutgers. Big Ten play will continue for the Gophers tomorrow as they take on #21 Wisconsin in a Border Battle rivalry.

DOUBLES
The Golden Gophers snagged the doubles point from the Scarlet Knights in two 6-2 games. Making their first appearance as a duo, Tiffany Huber and Juliet Zhang finished first. Following behind them, Dalila Said and Ekin Ercetin won their seventh doubles match this season. Seniors Camy Frei and Tina Kreinis ended their match unfinished leading at 5-4.

SINGLES
Minnesota would use their home court advantage to the fullest during Friday's tilt. Sweeping the Scarlet Knights in singles, every Gopher defeated their opponent in two straight sets. Ekin Ercetin picked up her 11th win this year. She has won nine of her last 10 singles matches.

NOTABLE
Minnesota picks up their first Big Ten Conference win of the year over Rutgers. Along with the win, the Gophers have a perfect 9-0 record at Baseline this season. Contributing heavily this year, freshman Ekin Ercetin leads the singles category with 11 wins.

QUOTABLE
"Today the team did a great job all-around," said head coach Catrina Thompson. "Anytime you beat a conference opponent in six straight sets that's a good day. Tomorrow we have a great opportunity in front of us and we need to go out there, play aggressively in doubles and be disciplined in singles."

UP NEXT
Minnesota will be back at Baseline at 10:00a.m., on Saturday, March 7 for a Border Battle match against rival Wisconsin.
