As Gopher Wrestling looks ahead to the 2020-21 season, GopherSports.com looks back at the top moments from the 2019-20 campaign.

The top moment from 2019-20 is Gable Steveson's run to a Big Ten title in Piscataway, N.J., in early March. Seeded second at heavyweight, Steveson opened the tournament with a pin in just 89 seconds against Rutgers' Alex Esposito. He followed that with his second win in three weeks against Iowa's Tony Cassioppi. His 9-4 decision in the semifinals set up a championship showdown with top seed Mason Parris of Michigan.

In a battle of unbeatens, Steveson set the tone early with a pair of first-period takedowns. Leading 5-3, Steveson added his third takedown and held off a late Parris charge to take the title with an 8-6 decision.

With a win in his final match, Steveson finished the year with an unblemished 15-0 record and a 50-2 mark in two seasons, the highest win percentage of any Gopher wrestler with 50 career victories.

Quotable: "I think my hand fighting skills and just me getting to my attacks were key. Just making sure my defense was perfect too, and it worked out pretty well for me. Compared to last year when I took second it feels real good. I'm excited. From here, we just keep pushing forward."

Notable: Minnesota heavyweights have won 10 of the last 22 Big Ten titles. Ohio State has won five followed by Iowa with four.
