Hear from the Gophers track & field captains as the team kicks off the 2021 indoor season this weekend.
MINNEAPOLIS -- The Golden Gopher track & field team is set to open the 2021 indoor season with head-to-head competition against Iowa as the team travels to Iowa City, Iowa, for the Hawkeye Border Battle on Saturday. Action begins at 10 a.m. CT at the Iowa Recreation Building.
Hear from the Gophers captains on what they are most looking forward to this season as the team prepares for its season-opener.
Abby Kohut-Jackson: I am most excited to train and compete alongside my teammates, finally wearing the Minnesota uniform again!
Val Larson: I am most looking forward to competing this indoor season! With the uncertainty of this past year, I am just grateful we get the opportunity to step on the track and race to hopefully achieve all of the goals we set for ourselves.
Sophie Schmitz: I cannot wait to be with everyone and compete as a team again. The friendships and togetherness that we have built throughout the years are some of the many reasons why I love this sport, and to have that again after so long will make it a great season no matter what.
Mike Herauf: I'm looking forward to finally competing and seeing all the hard work pay off. I also live for the moments where our team comes together to hype everyone up while they are competing!
Owen Hoeft: I am most looking forward to finally getting into the racing flow a bit. After having no races for so long, it will be awesome to get the competitive juices flowing again.
Teddy Frid: Unfortunately, I only have outdoor eligibility left. I wish I could be with my team during the indoor season. I am looking forward to watching everyone develop as the season goes on. We have a lot of talented men and women, and I am confident they will show up to compete when it matters the most.
Amira Young: As we begin the 2021 indoor season, I am most looking forward to being able to compete against other schools since that was taken away from us in March due to the pandemic. I'll take one weekend at a time, and see what the future has in store for the team.
Elliott Davis: Since I don't have an indoor season, I'm truly looking to get several hours of intense training in so that the outdoor season will be phenomenal!
Erin Dunning: Having the opportunity to compete! This year has been filled with unknown, but our team has embraced and battled everything thrown our way. I am blessed to be practicing with my teammates and having coaches, trainers, and support staff do everything in their power to give us the opportunity to compete.
