Gophers Sweep Beavers for 700th Win

No. 3 Minnesota picked up its third straight series sweep after a 3-2 win over Bemidji State on Saturday.
Bemidji, Minn. -- The No. 3 Golden Gopher women's hockey team became the fastest women's program in NCAA history to reach 700 victories after a 3-2 win over Bemidji State at the Sanford Center on Saturday afternoon.
Minnesota (7-3-0) earned its third straight sweep this season and 12th victory in a row over Bemidji State (2-5-1). The Gophers continued their trend of starting off strong as Abigail Boreen put the Gophers in front 48 seconds into Saturday's contest. For the second straight game, Bemidji State answered and evened the score at one apiece. The Gopher freshmen proved to be the difference as Ella Huber and Peyton Hemp scored to put the Maroon and Gold up by two. The Beavers cut the lead in half with 5:53 to go in regulation. The Gophers didn't allow a shot the rest of the way to secure the victory.
Former Beaver Lauren Bench made 25 saves to earn her third win of the year. BSU's Hannah Hogenson stopped 33 of 36 shots. The Gophers outshot the Beavers 93 to 50 in the series.

"We grinded out a win here tonight, but a win nonetheless," said head coach Brad Frost. "It's three points in the bank and we're happy about it in particular going into the off weekend. Anytime you can sweep on the road, it's a big deal. It's an exciting thing for our program with this win being number 700. The success of our program over the years has been incredible and it's been exciting being a part of it. I'm proud of all of those who have come before us to make our program what it is today."

Saturday's win was No. 700 in program history. Senior Taylor Heise extended her point streak to eight games with two assists, while Ella Huber scored in back-to-back games for the first time in her career.
