Minnesota came back from a three-goal deficit with late heroics, but fell in overtime 5-4.
DULUTH, Minn. -- The No. 5/6 Golden Gopher women's hockey team fell in Saturday afternoon's game 5-4 in overtime to No. 6/7 Minnesota Duluth to split this weekend's series at AMSOIL Arena.
Minnesota (1-3-0) started the scoring off early as Taylor Heise finished off a beautiful passing play 39 seconds into the game. Minnesota Duluth (2-2-0) responded with four unanswered goals to give the Bulldogs a 4-1 just over halfway into the contest. Emily Oden quickly got the Maroon & Gold back into it with her second goal in as many games. Minnesota used late heroics from senior Abigail Boreen as she scored two goals in the final three minutes of the third, including the tying goal with 34 seconds left, to force overtime. UMD's Flaherty scored the game-winner just over two minutes into overtime.
Lauren Bench made 18 saves for Minnesota. The Gophers led 35 to 22 in shots on goal.
Minnesota Duluth's top line scored three goals, including two power play tallies from Gabbie Hughes. Bulldog goaltender Emma Soderberg made 31 saves.

"Great comeback here tonight," said head coach Brad Frost. "Being down 4-2 with a few minutes left and finding a way to tie it up in the closing seconds showed a lot of heart and character from our team. Unfortunately, we weren't at our best for the majority of that game and Duluth was able to capitalize on it. All-in-all, it's something that we can take and learn from as we continue to shape our identity. This is some confidence that our team will have going forward."
Notable
Taylor Heise's first period goal was no. 40 of her career. Emily Oden's second period goal was her 20th of her career. Abigail Boreen recorded her 2nd career multi-goal game.
