MINNEAPOLIS – After nearly a full year of waiting, the Gopher rowing program is set to return to competition next month as the University of Minnesota announced its 2021 spring schedule on Thursday with six competitions awaiting the Maroon & Gold.
"We are grateful for the hard work our administrators have done in collaboration with the Big Ten Conference to create a safe and competitive racing environment this spring," Minnesota Head Coach Alicea Strodel said. "The Big Ten is the strongest rowing conference in the country and we line up against historically great teams every week. The team is working hard and excitedly preparing for these opportunities!"
The 2021 season will officially kick off 364 days after the 2020 campaign came to an abrupt end on March 12, 2020 when the NCAA and the Big Ten announced all remaining athletic events would be canceled due to COVID-19 public health concerns.
Nearly one full year later, the Gophers return to the same race where last season ended – with Louisville's Cardinal Invite in Oak Ridge, Tenn. on March 13-14.
Minnesota then heads to back-to-back races in Ohio the following month, taking on Ohio State, Duke, Virginia and Michigan in Columbus on April 3 before the inaugural B1G Invitational in Cincinnati on April 17-18.
The Maroon & Gold close out the month with a dual against Iowa in Iowa City on April 24 before competing in Indiana's Dale England Cup in Bloomington on May 1 when they'll compete against Indiana and Michigan State.
The 2021 Big Ten Championships are set for May 16 in Devil's Lake, Wis.
