Gophers Open Weekend Action in Iowa

Amira Young and Erin Reidy won their events to lead the Gophers at the Hawkeye B1G Invitational on Friday.
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Amira Young and Erin Reidy won their respective events and four Gophers recorded all-time top-10 marks to lead the Maroon & Gold as the Golden Gopher track & field program competed on day one of this weekend's Hawkeye B1G Invitational on Friday.
Women's Recap
The Gopher women picked up two event titles on the track on day one in Iowa as Young won the 60 meters in a career-best 7.26 seconds, improving her second-ranked mark in program history by 0.03 seconds, and Reidy ran a season-best 2:11.10 to win her second race of her college career with an 800-meter title. Sophie Schmitz was women's 800m runner-up in 2:11.33 as well.
Val Larson, Abigail Schaaffe, and Anastasia Korzenowski also made their mark on Minnesota's all-time top-10 list on Friday night. Larson and Schaaffe both ran career-best and all-time top-10 marks in the 400 meters with Larson finishing as runner-up in 54.31 seconds, good for fourth in Minnesota history, and Schaaffe runnning 54.79 for fourth place at the meet and 10th among all-time Gophers.
Korzenowski also posted a career-best and all-time top-10 mark, running 4:42.82 as runner-up in the women's mile and moving into 10th in program history in the event. Jaycie Thomsen picked up a runner-up finish on the track as well, clocking a career-best time of 16:36.36 in the 5,000 meters.
Men's Recap
Jordan MacIntosh and Seth Eliason led the Gopher men with runner-up finishes in their respective events on Friday. MacIntosh clocked a career-best 4:06.11 for second place in the mile, and Eliason ran a career-best 1:53.62 for a second-place showing in the 800 meters. Kion Benjamin finished third in the 60 meters as well.
