Gophers Announce 2021 Schedule

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Minnesota women's tennis team is scheduled to play 16 matches during the 2021 Big Ten regular season, head coach Catrina Thompson announced Thursday. The schedule will feature seven home matches and nine away matches.
"We are looking forward to the challenge and just grateful to be back competing together as a team," Thompson said.
The season opens against the Badgers in Madison, Wis. on Feb. 14. The Gophers will alternate weekends at home and on the road until their longest road trip of the year spanning from Mar. 12 - Mar. 21, where they will face Purdue, Indiana, Nebraska and Iowa.
The team will return home to face Northwestern on Mar. 26 and Illinois on Mar. 28. After the league-wide bye week period from Mar. 29 to Apr. 8, the season will resume on the road against Ohio State on Apr. 9 and against Penn State on Apr. 11.
Minnesota's final home game will be the regular season finale against Wisconsin on Apr. 17.
"The Big Ten is one of the strongest conferences in the country so every match we play will be a battle," Thompson said. "We are on the road a bit more with this year's schedule but it will make us tougher as we get towards the end of our season."
The Gophers return five from last year, including senior captains Juliet Zhang and River Hart. In addition to the returners, the Gophers welcome freshmen Rachel Hanford and Zeyneb Sarioglan in 2021. This will be Catrina Thompson's fourth season as head coach.
