SARASOTA, Fla. - After a challenging opening round of the Heroes Ladies Intercollegiate, the Minnesota women's golf team shaved 26 strokes off its team score in the second round Monday in Sarasota.Ā

Notable
Annabelle Ackroyd had an excellent second round for the Gophers, including an eagle on the 16th hole and shooting par for the day. After a difficult start, the sophomore had a nice rally to play the last 15 holes at 3-under.Ā

Sophomore Grace Curran is tied for 30th after two rounds of play (74-74--148). Emma Carpenter recorded three birdies on the day and is tied for 45th (78-73--151).Ā

Finishing at 73rd is Senior Grace Kellar (85-80--165), and freshman Kira Wolf rounds out the lineup at 74th (90-77--167) with a great improvement from the first round.Ā

Quotable
"I am so proud of the fight in this team," head coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. "To turn around and fire a team score of 296, which is 26 shots better than yesterday, is testament to the desire they have to be competitive. Annabelle's 72 today was stellar. After a difficult start, she played her remaining 15 holes 3-under. These are 15 of the best teams in the nation, and today we proved we belong!"
