HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND
• After a two-week hiatus, the University of Minnesota is scheduled to return to action March 12-13 in Minneapolis to take on Illinois. Friday's match is scheduled for 6 p.m., while Saturday's tilt is at 5 p.m. Minnesota's series against Michigan, Feb. 26-27 was postponed due to COVID-19 concerns in the Michigan program. Minnesota's series against Ohio State March 5-6 was postponed due to COVID-19 concerns within the Gopher program.Â
• Stephanie Samedy has produced 20-plus kills in four matches this season. The senior opposite hitter had 28 and 20 against Purdue (2/5-6),  23 against Penn State (2/13) and 27 against Nebraska (2/19). She narrowly had another against Penn State on Feb. 14 when she registered 19. On the season, Samedy averages 4.53 kills per set.Â
• Minnesota held an astounding 20 team blocks against Nebraska three weeks ago. It marked the most blocks in a single match since 2002. It also marked the most blocks in any match since NCAA changed to 25-point scoring in 2008. Regan Pittman produced a career-best 14 blocks Feb. 19 against the Huskers. On the season, she averages 1.21 blocks per set.Â
• CC McGraw officially surpassed the 1,000 career dig mark. She entered the Nebraska match (2/19) with 981 and had 19 in the win. She enters this weekend's series with 1,014. The last Gopher to reach 1,000 career digs was Dalianliz Rosado, who finished her career with 1,870 digs.
• Stephanie Samedy currently ranks 15th among NCAA active leaders in career kills (1,362) and 30th in kills per set (3.6). Regan Pittman ranks 13th among NCAA active leaders in career hitting percentage (.356), sixth in blocks per set (1.18) and eighth in total blocks (443).Â
• Regan Pittman and Stephanie Samedy has been named two of 30 candidates up for the Senior CLASS Award, announced today by the organization. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. The complete list of candidates follows this release. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
ON THE DOCKET
• Minnesota is scheduled to play its only split week of the season when it travels to No. 1 Wisconsin, March 18 at 7 p.m. The Golden Gophers then host the Badgers on March 21, also at 7 p.m. Both matches will be televised on Big Ten Network.Â
