The 2021 NCAA runner-up in the women's 5,000 meters, Bethany Hasz has been honored by the Big Ten Conference for her indoor track & field season.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Senior distance runner Bethany Hasz, the B1G champion for 3,000 meters and NCAA runner-up in the 5,000 meters, is among the Big Ten Conference's indoor track & field postseason award recipients, as selected by the conference's head coaches, the league announced Wednesday.

Hasz was selected as the 2021 Big Ten Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year, marking Minnesota's first Big Ten Track Athlete of the Year since the award was divided into separate track and field honors in 2007. Hasz won the 3,000-meter title at the Big Ten Championships with a time of 9:06.66. The Alexandria, Minn., native finished second in the 5,000 meters at the NCAA Indoor Championships, clocking a season-best time of 15:49.62, as well.

Hasz's 2021 track & field season also included running a Minnesota program record time of 8:59.37 for the 3,000 meters at the Hawkeye B1G Invite. In five appearances during the indoor campaign, Hasz recorded four consecutive victories. Her only defeat was in the NCAA 5,000 meters where she came in second.

Earlier this month, the Big Ten announced its 2020-21 award recipients for Track Athlete of the Championships, Field Athlete of the Championships, and Coach of the Year, as well as the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honorees. Minnesota junior sprinter Amira Young was honored as B1G Track Athlete of the Championships after winning both the 60 meters and 200 meters at the Big Ten meet, and director of track & field/cross country Matt Bingle was honored as Women's Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year. Grant Fuller and Tate Sweeney were honored as B1G Sportsmanship Award honorees as well.
