Hopkins Named Midwest Region Coach of the Year

Sarah Hopkins has been named the 2020 USTFCCCA Midwest Region Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Golden Gopher women's cross country head coach Sarah Hopkins has been named the 2020-21 USTFCCCA Midwest Region Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Thursday.

In her eighth season at the helm of the Gophers, Hopkins guided the Gophers to a fifth-place team finish at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships in Stillwater, Okla., the highest team finish in program history. Earlier in the season, the Gophers also finished second in the team standings at the Big Ten Cross Country Championships.

Under Hopkins' direction, Bethany Hasz won the Big Ten individual title and Abby Kohut-Jackson earned All-Big Ten Second Team honors in eighth place. Hasz also placed eighth at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, earning First Team All-America honors and capturing the second highest NCAA finish by a Gopher in program history.
