Wiskus Named Finalist for Nissen-Emery Award

Gopher men's gymnastics senior Shane Wiskus was named as a finalist for the Nissen-Emery Award the College Gymnastics Association announced on Friday. The award is presented to the nation's top senior collegiate gymnast each year.
Wiskus is one of six finalists to advance from the list of eleven nominees. To become a finalist, Wiskus needed to earn 50% approval from NCAA coaches to move forward.
The next step in the award process will begin on Mar. 31, where ballots will be posted on the CGA website for eligible coaches, team captains, judges, and honorary CGA members to vote for this year's Nissen-Emery winner. Voting concludes on Apr. 7, and the official Nissen-Emery Award winner will be announced the weekend the NCAA Championships come to Minneapolis Apr. 16-17.
Minnesota has had a total of four gymnasts win the Nissen-Emery Award in the program's history, with Ellis Mannon being the most recent winner for the Gophers in 2015. Other Gopher gymnasts to claim the prestigious honor are Guillermo Alvarez in 2005, John Roethlisberger in 1993, and Tim LaFleur in 1978.
