MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota men's golf team kicks is back in action this week as it travels to Palo Alto, Calif., for The Goodwin. Taking place Thursday through Saturday, the event starts a stretch of four tournaments over the next four weeks for the Golden Gophers.
The three-day event will take place at the Stanford Golf Course, which is playing as a par-70, 6,727 yard course. In Thursday's opening round, the Gophers will begin on No. 10 at 10:10 a.m. CT with their five golfers going off in 14 minute increments. They'll then follow the same format with Friday's second round, starting on the first hole at 3:20 p.m. Saturday's schedule will be determined based on results following the second round.
Minnesota is one of 28 teams in the field, which features three teams ranked in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches' Poll with No. 4 Arizona State, No. 6 Pepperdine and No. 14 SMU. Three other teams are receiving votes in Georgia Tech, Northwestern and host-Stanford.
Rounding out the field are BYU, Cal, Cal Baptist, Cal Poly, Colorado, Denver, Florida Atlantic, Long Beach State, Nevada, Oregon, Pacific, St. Mary's, San Diego, San Jose State, Santa Clara, TCU, UC Davis, UCLA, USC, Washington and Washington State.
Representing Minnesota at the tournament this weekend will be seniors Angus Flanagan and Thomas Longbella, juniors Will Grevlos and Lincoln Johnson, and sophomore Connor Glynn.
Four of those five Gophers competed for Minnesota earlier this month at the Spartan Collegiate at Sea Island. Flanagan was the team's top finisher as he tied for 30th (72.67 stroke average), while Johnson came in 63rd (75.33), and Glynn and Longbella each tied for 66th (76.00).
Grevlos will be making his stroke play debut this year, though he did win both of his matchups at the Big Ten Match Play Championship in February.
