Gopher men's gymnastics captain Shane Wiskus was named as the Co-Gymnast of the Week by the Big Ten Conference on Monday following his return to the Maroon & Gold's lineup against Penn State this past weekend. This is the tenth time of his career that Wiskus has received the honor, and is the second consecutive week that he has taken home the award. Wiskus shares this week's title with Cameron Bock of Michigan.
On Saturday against the Nittany Lions, Wiskus helped lead the Gophers to their first team victory of the season by defeating Penn State 404.300-398.250. Wiskus was able to capture the all-around title on the day following a performance that saw him finish with a score of 84.050, the third highest all-around score in the nation this year.
Additionally, Wiskus was able to win a total of three event titles for the Maroon & Gold, including on floor exercise (14.800), parallel bars (14.750), and high bar (14.350). His score on parallel bars currently ranks as the highest score in the nation this season, while his score on floor ranks as the second highest in the nation.
While Wiskus will not return to the Gophers lineup again until the Big Ten Championships on Saturday, Apr. 3, Minnesota is set to travel to Ann Arbor this weekend to take on the No. 2 ranked Michigan Wolverines on Sunday, Mar. 14 at 12:00 p.m. CST.
