Gophers Close Out Regular Season Against Iowa

HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND
• The University of Minnesota completes the home season this weekend when Iowa comes to town, April 2-3. The Golden Gophers have gone 6-1 at Maturi Pavilion this year. The Golden Gophers have earned wins against Michigan State, Penn State and Illinois. Minnesota's lone home loss came to No. 1 Wisconsin March 21 in four sets.
• Last weekend against Northwestern, Minnesota hit .381 as a team and had 28 blocks in seven sets played. The Golden Gophers averaged 4.00 blocks per set last weekend. Shea Rubright produced 15 blocks, while Regan Pittman had 12. The Gophers also had 16 aces, including five from Pittman and four from Rachel Kilkelly. After missing the Wisconsin match, setter Melani Shaffmaster returned to the lineup and had 60 assists in the series and posted 15 digs and nine blocks.
• The 2021 DI Women's Volleyball Selection Show is on ESPNU at 3 p.m., Sun., April 4. That's when the field of 48 teams will be announced for this season's championship. The first round is Wed., April 14 , and the second round will be April 15. All matches this year will be played in Omaha, Neb.
• Regan Pittman and Stephanie Samedy has been named two of 10 candidates up for the Senior CLASS Award, announced today by the organization. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. The complete list of candidates follows this release. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
• Stephanie Samedy has produced 20-plus kills in four matches this season. The senior opposite hitter had 28 and 20 against Purdue (2/5-6), 23 against Penn State (2/13) and 27 against Nebraska (2/19). She narrowly had another against Penn State on Feb. 14 when she registered 19.
• Stephanie Samedy currently ranks 14th among NCAA active leaders in career kills (1,422). Regan Pittman ranks 14th among NCAA active leaders in career hitting percentage (.358), eighth in blocks per set (1.21) and seventh in total blocks (479).
