Gophers Set to Take On Field at Hoosier Collegiate Invitational

4/2/2021 9:08:00 AM | Men's Golf

MINNEAPOLIS – After competing in California last weekend, the Minnesota men's golf team returns to the Midwest for this weekend's Hoosier Collegiate Invitational in Bloomington, Ind.

The two-day event will take place at The Pfau Course at Indiana University, which is playing as a par-71 at 7,432 yards. Saturday will consist of 36 holes, beginning with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. CT. Sunday will have groups teeing off both the front and back nine with play starting at 8 a.m.

Minnesota is one of nine teams in the field along with host-Indiana, Ball State, Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Memphis, Michigan, Michigan State and Nebraska.

Representing Minnesota at the tournament this weekend will be senior Angus Flanagan, junior Lincoln Johnson, sophomores Harrison Arnold and Connor Glynn and freshman Ben Warian.

Three of the Gophers top scorers so far this season will be in competition. Flanagan has competed in both of Minnesota's stroke play tournaments this spring, finishing 30th or better in both. He leads the Gophers in scoring average (71.67), rounds under par (3), and lowest rounds of 18 (68) and 54 holes (212).

Glynn and Johnson are tied for second on the team, along with senior Thomas Longbella, with a 75.50 scoring average. Glynn and Johnson have played in all three tournaments for the Gophers this spring, including February's Big Ten Match Play Championship. Glynn has the only other round under par this year aside from Flanagan's three, while Johnson's lowest round was a 2-over 72 at last week's The Goodwin.

After making his collegiate debut by going 1-2-0 at the Big Ten Match Play, Warian also competed at the Spartan Collegiate at Sea Island. He finished tied for 72nd with a +18, 234.

Meanwhile, Arnold will be making his season debut. He competed in four stroke play tournaments a year ago with a 72.64 scoring average. He recorded two rounds under par, both of which came at the Pleasant View Invitational, which he won with a 6-under 138 (71-67). In his four starts last year, three of which were as an individual (including at Pleasant View), Arnold finished 36th or better in all of them.
