Mead, Gophers Wrap Up Competition at the U.S. Olympic Trials

In the last day of competition at the trials, Gopher alum Hassan Mead finished 11th in the men's 5000m final, failing to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics.
EUGENE, Ore - The final University of Minnesota representative's Olympic aspirations came to an end on Sunday. Minnesota alum Hassan Mead finished in 11th place in the men's 5000m final with a time of 13:47.85, falling short of the 13:30.30 time that needed to be bested to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics.
Mead, in temperatures reaching 112 degrees Fahrenheit, posted a slower time than Thursday's first round 13:36.80 and failed to qualify for his second consecutive Olympics. Mead posted a 13:35.70 in the 5000m when he qualified for the U.S. Olympic Team in 2016.
