Minnesota Set to Host Gopher Invitational

The University of Minnesota men's golf team returns home to host the Gopher Invitational held Sunday, Sept. 12 and Monday, Sept. 13 at Windsong Farm Golf Club in Independence, Minn. The tournament is free to attend for all fans and supporters.

The Gopher Invitational will start at 7:15 a.m. Sunday with nine teams going off the front nine, while five teams and Minnesota's individual competitors will tee off on the back nine at 7:30 a.m. The day will feature 36 holes of continuous play. Monday's final round will have the same start times with slots designated based on scores after the first two rounds.

The field: Minnesota (host), Arkansas State, Furman, Georgia Southern, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Kent State, Marquette, Miami (OH), Michigan State, Notre Dame, Rutgers, West Virginia.

Baylor is the reigning Gopher Invitational champion from 2019, while Arkansas' William Buhl won the individual title for the second straight season.

In attendance and competing in the Gopher Invitational is Michigan State's James Piot, the 2021 U.S. Amateur Champion. Mark Goetz of West Virginia, the stroke-play medalist out of 312 golfers at the U.S. Amateur, will also be competing at Windsong Farm.

The course: Windsong Farm Golf Club is hosting the Gopher Invitational for the eighth time. It will play at a par of 71 (35-36) and nearly 7,400 yards.

Windsong Farm is consistently rated among Minnesota's top golf courses and also nationally recognized as one of the top modern courses in the nation. Windsong's breathtaking views and unmatched course conditions contribute to the ultimate golfing experience.

The lineup: All 10 members of the Minnesota golf team will be in action this weekend. Five will compete as a team, including Harrison Arnold, Antoine Sale, Eduardo Galdos, Connor Glynn and Lincoln Johnson. Meanwhile,Ben Warian, Bennett Swavely, Alex Eickhoff, Will Grevlos and Harry Plowman-Ollington will all compete as individuals.

The Golden Gophers opened the 2021-22 season, and 100th season of the program, last weekend at the Marquette Intercollegiate in Hartford, Wis. As a team, Minnesota finished the event in 17th place with a 880 total score (+16).

Antoine Sale was Minnesota's top finisher, finishing in a tie for 39th (73-69-74--216).Next on the leaderboard for the Gophers was Eduardo Galdos after he tied for 51st (74-71-74--219)  in his first collegiate event. Ben Warian tied for 70th (73-73-77--223) after the three day event. On No. 9, the last hole competition, Glynn rebounded to hit a hole-in-one. He finished the tournament in a tie for 76th (72-76-76--224). Senior Will Grevlos closed the day tied for 85th (74-74-78-226).
